Over a year ago on August 3, 2019, the community of El Paso was victim to a heinous act of violence fueled by racism. Days following, George Lopez and Edward James Olmos celebrated life with the survivors of El Paso unspeakable tragedy, leaving 23 people dead and others wounded at mass shooting at a Walmart in El Paso, Texas becoming one of the worst incident of racist violence targeting Latinos in recent American history. “We must also push back against hateful narratives that cast Latinos as outsiders. As Latino essential workers continue to battle against COVID-19, it’s never been clearer that Latino communities constitute an essential thread in the fabric of America,” stated Brown Issues who’s goal is cultivating the next generation of Brown Leaders through civic engagement, healing, and narrative change.
